It is a sad day at my house. As many of you know, I have been caring for Billy Cat, a gray tabby rescued by my brother-in-law many years ago. Billy Cat is old, has diabetes, has intestinal problems that have no cure, and has been steadily going downhill over the past few months. He has lost so much weight that he is not much more than a skeleton.

The Moon Still Remembers

It had been a beautiful and sensual evening. I lay there on my big brass bed, slowly cooling down, feeling relaxed, satisfied. The room was dark. The drapes were pulled back. The window was cracked open to let in a little breeze. The cool night air felt good.

She was already asleep, lying there, breathing softly in the dark. I could barely see her smooth naked back. Then the moon, that romantic sphere, peeped from behind the clouds, and filled the room with the softest of light. Now I could see her clearly.

Billy cat and Clemson kitty

Billy cat has been a house cat a long time, ever since my brother-in-law rescued him many years ago. Since that time, the closest thing to being outside was when he was in the Florida room-style back porch with some of the windows opened. Out there, Billy cat could sniff the air, hear the birds chirping, watch the neighborhood cats as they strolled by, or annoy the neighbor’s dog when he was let out to do his business.

Meet Billy Cat

Billy Cat is my feline buddy during this time of social distancing, and has been a dear presence in my life for a while. Billy Cat was rescued by my brother-in-law and named for a beloved uncle of his, a Vietnam veteran, who had passed away. For several years I lived with my sister and brother-in-law, and then they moved into a new place. I offered to care for the cat. They have a French bulldog (Bella) that is a little too rambunctious around cats.
